Scan AI Text is designed to be specific about what it knows. A result describes inspectable evidence, not a verdict about authorship.

Deterministic scope

The browser scanner reads Unicode codepoints, formatting controls, Markdown frontmatter, and supported HTML metadata. The server tool can inspect supported document and media containers. Neither tool can inspect provider-private systems or guarantee detection of undisclosed marks.

No universal statistical-watermark promise

Statistical watermarks can depend on a secret generation key, tokenizer, model, sampling algorithm, and detector threshold. Without the matching configuration, a reliable universal check is not available. Scan AI Text does not claim otherwise.

No definitive AI-authorship verdict

Writing style is not identity. Human text can look regular, polished, repetitive, or formulaic. Generated text can be edited heavily. Short passages and multilingual work create more uncertainty. Low-confidence writing-pattern hints should never be used alone for grading, discipline, hiring, publication, or accusation.

Cleaning can change text representation

Normalization changes codepoints even when the rendered text looks identical. Conservative defaults preserve supported emoji, scripts, variation sequences, flags, and bidi context, but users should still review the before-and-after preview and keep the original file.

File and metadata support

Format-aware tools support DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, ODT, EPUB, PDF, PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, BMP, GIF, TIFF, SVG, MP4/MOV/M4A/M4V, WAV, and MP3 metadata surfaces. Coverage varies by format and installed system tools. PDF results can be partial without ExifTool and qpdf; `c2patool` provides stronger C2PA verification when separately installed.

Metadata removal does not remove pixel-, waveform-, soft-binding, or unknown statistical watermarks. Cleaning can remove authorship and provenance records, so keep originals and use only on files you own or are authorized to process.

Heuristic writing metrics

Sentence variation, lexical diversity, and phrase-density metrics are handcrafted descriptive signals. The displayed heuristic index is not an AI probability and must not be used alone for grading, discipline, hiring, publication, or accusations.
